Shamanic Drum Making Retreat

Join us for a unique weekend retreat in the magical woodlands of Wasing, where you will craft your own hand-held frame drum and beater, under the guidance of experienced drum maker and musician Visy Bloodaxe.
Frame drums are among the oldest known percussion instruments, used for centuries in music, ritual, prayer, and healing practices across cultures. Over the course of this immersive weekend, you’ll create your own drum using sustainably sourced materials, forming a personal connection with your instrument from the very beginning.
All materials are provided, including handcrafted wooden frames and responsibly sourced skins, carefully prepared by Visy.
What to expect:
Saturday
Arrive, pitch your tent, and settle into the peaceful woodland setting.
You’ll be guided step-by-step through the drum-making process in a small, supportive group, ensuring plenty of individual attention.
Enjoy a delicious fireside lunch and dinner, with time to relax and connect with nature.
In the evening, gather for a special ceremony to bless the drums and give thanks for the natural materials used. The night continues with an intimate live musical performance with Visy and special guests.
Sunday
Begin the day with a nourishing breakfast before heading into the woodland to forage for the wood that will become your drum beater.
You’ll then craft your beater and complete your instrument, followed by a shared fireside lunch before departure.

Wake to birdsong and sleep under the trees, with space to pitch your own tent.
